Though pilot training is expensive, it can also be very lucrative. So students spend a lot of their money enrolling for pilot training classes. Unfortunately, many of these schools are not well equipped and do not have proper staff as a result of which plane crashes occure frequently.
The age restrictions for becoming a pilot are as follows:
1. There are no restrictions for undergoing flight training
2. At 16, a pilot can undertake a solo flight under the supervision of the flight instructor
3. At the age of 17, a person can obtain his private pilot’s license. It is the basis for more advanced ratings for a person who becomes a commercial pilot later in life.
The pilot has to complete a minimum of 40 hours of flight training under an instructor, though most trainee pilots complete 60 hours of flying , before applying for the license.
The trainee pilot also has to
1. Pass a ground school course either live or on a DVD
2. Take and pass a written exam
3. Have a flight physical test
4. Pass the check ride.
To practice becoming a pilot, a person can get a flight simulator, a yoke and pedals. However, formal training and certification is required before a person can start flying an aeroplane.
Pilot training courses are conducted at both major international airports and at smaller airfields. Small airports are better since there is less traffic , reducing the possibility of an accident. Most pilot training schools have qualified flight instructors who have been commercial pilots for many years. Training is usually imparted first using small two seater single engine planes.
Since the person training to be a pilot has to pay the training plane’s hourly rental costs, fuel costs and the instructors fees, pilot training is usually expensive. Initially, the trainee pilot flies with the instructor . After learning about the controls and operation of the plane, the trainee can take his / her first solo flight.
To get the private pilot’s license, the trainee pilot has to take a test. The pilot then gets an instrumental rating and a twin engine plane rating. All ratings are only assigned after a pilot has completed a certain number of hours in the air.
